What is mindfulness?

 Mindfulness can be defined as a mental state characterized by being present and fully engaged in the current moment, without judgment or distraction. It involves paying attention to one's thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surroundings in a non-reactive and accepting way.


Some common definitions of mindfulness include:


- Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, defines mindfulness as "paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."


- According to the American Psychological Association, mindfulness is "a moment-to-moment awareness of one's experience without judgment."


- The Oxford English Dictionary defines mindfulness as "a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations." 


Overall, mindfulness is a state of awareness that involves being fully present in the moment, observing one's thoughts and feelings with curiosity and non-judgment, and accepting them as they are without trying to change or control them. It has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental and physical health, including reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, improving focus and cognitive performance, and enhancing overall well-being.
